YULIA’S WORLD BUILDING — Meet Yulia (@s_h_u_r)  — a Los Angeles-based photographer, director, and self-portrait artist whose work moves between beauty and discomfort, fantasy and reality, the feminine and the strange.

“I’ve always used photography to create characters and worlds rather than simply document what is in front of me, using my toolbox full of shapes, lines, colors, and lucid dreams.

I’d known of United Nude for a long time, and their architectural approach to footwear was always inspiring to me. The shoes feel like objects created for an imagined body. They don’t simply decorate it — they interrupt its shape and change its balance. Recently, I had the pleasure of wearing United Nude in a fashion show by my friend, designer Aliona Kononova.

For this series, I let the shoes decide who I would become.

Their architecture changed the way I stood, moved, and understood my own body. I followed the forms they created instead of forcing the body into a pose. The clothing by Aliona helped continue the silhouette beyond the shoes.

At some point, the shoes stopped feeling like objects I was wearing. It felt as if the body was changing itself to meet them… slowly becoming the body they were made for.

I loved creating this series and becoming part of United Nude’s world. It felt very natural to bring their designs into mine and let them change my world a little too."
